In Samuel Bagshaw’s 1846 Gazetteer of Derbyshire [1], he describes Sutton-on-the-Hill parish as containing “the townships of Sutton on the Hill, Ash, Osleston, and Thurvaston”.

.

In 1866, the Parish of Osleston & Thurvaston created and split from Sutton-on-the-Hill. And in 1882 the boundaries were further adjusted to absorb more of Sutton-on-the-Hill into Osleston & Thurvaston [2].

Various spellings can be found for Osleston, including “Osliston” and “Osleton”.
