Possible fifth child of Samuel & Ellen Bull

Hypothesis

Emma Bull [1], baptised in July 1831 at St Werburgh’s Church in Derby [2] [Figure 1], Derbyshire, and buried August 1831 at the same church [3] [Figure 2], was the child of Samuel Bull & Helena Millward.

There are no other known records for Samuel or Ellen Bull between 1821 and 1841 that would dispute this theory. It would have required Samuel to have moved with his family to Derby (a distance of just over 10 miles) and return to Sutton-on-the-Hill by the time of the 1841 Census.

Youngest sons George and Joseph would most likely have been living with them at the time. Elder sons Samuel and John, who didn’t marry until 1839 and 1843 respectively, may also have been living at home.

Ellen would have been 39 years old at the time she gave birth.

A brief search has not found any records for an alternate Samuel & Ellen Bull—however, further research is required.
